TGA warns against unauthorized transport to Makkah, holy sites

RIYADH: The Transport General Authority (TGA) has instructed all transport operators in Saudi Arabia especially in Makkah to strictly comply with official regulations prohibiting the transport of individuals to Makkah or the holy sites without a valid Hajj permit or an entry permit for work or residence.

The directive, effective from April 29, aligns with recent measures from the Ministry of Interior aimed at managing crowds and ensuring the safety and security of pilgrims.

Violators found transporting or attempting to transport visit visa holders to Makkah or the holy sites between Dhul Qadah 1 and Dhul Hijjah 14 will face penalties, including fines of up to SR100,000.

Vehicles used in such violations are also subject to confiscation, whether owned by the driver, an accomplice, or anyone involved in the offense, pending a court ruling.

The TGA emphasized the importance for all licensed carriers to meet regulatory requirements ahead of the Hajj season.

These include obtaining proper licenses and operating permits for vehicles and drivers, sticking to approved routes, and avoiding entry into restricted areas without authorization.

The authority also called on operators to fully cooperate with security and oversight bodies at checkpoints.

It warned that violations would be met with strict penalties.

“These steps are part of our operational plan for Hajj, aimed at enhancing compliance, safety, and the smooth movement of permitted pilgrims.

They also help maintain the quality and efficiency of transport services during the season,” the TGA said.
